genbe. is an 11-room Japanese minshuku in the Nakao neighbourhood of Nozawa Onsen.

An old Japanese inn with a new energy. genbe. brings together traditional Japanese spaces with art, music, food, design and local culture — creating a place that feels relaxed, creative and connected to the people and character of Nozawa.

Our rooms are simple and traditionally Japanese, with tatami flooring and futon bedding. The building has a shared, communal feel, with shared toilets and shower and bath facilities. 

genbe. is located in the quieter Nakao area, while still being close to everything you need. Nakao Onsen is just a few minutes’ walk away, the Karasawa ski lifts are nearby ( 5 minute walk ), and the centre of Nozawa Onsen is around a 13-minute walk from the hotel.

Winter Stays

During winter, stays are available as:

Friday check-in → Sunday check-out
Sunday check-in → Friday check-out

You can also combine the two stays for a longer visit if you want to stay through the week.

Breakfast is included with every stay, with a Japanese-style breakfast prepared using local ingredients.

When you’re ready for dinner, our genbe. restaurant is open during the winter season, serving food in the same relaxed and creative atmosphere as the rest of the hotel. Dinner is not included in your stay, but reservations can be made with our team.

There’s also more to genbe. than just the rooms. Throughout the season, we host DJ nights, live music, pop-ups, food events, workshops and collaborations, bringing together guests, locals, artists and friends.

Guests can also enjoy our outdoor sauna and hot tub, café, bottle shop, gift shop and indoor skate space during their stay.

After a day in the snow, soak in an onsen, grab a drink, have dinner, listen to some music or simply hang out.
