Genbe. is a gathering place in Nozawa Onsen where hospitality meets culture.
Born from an old ryokan, the building has been brought back to life by hand — shaped by local craftsmen, artists, friends, and creative minds who shared a vision for something new.
Bringing together accommodation, food, art, music, and local life, Genbe. is a place for connection, creativity, and unexpected encounters.
Through exhibitions, events, dining, and everyday moments, Genbe. creates a space where the village and the world meet.

Nestled in the mountains of northern Nagano, Nozawa Onsen is a village known for its natural hot springs, rich traditions, and beautiful mountain scenery.
For more than a thousand years, life in Nozawa Onsen has revolved around its natural hot springs. The thirteen public bathhouses remain part of everyday life, connected by quiet streets, traditional wooden buildings, and a community that continues to preserve the village’s customs. Winter brings deep snow and world-renowned skiing, while the warmer seasons reveal mountain trails, local food, festivals, and the slower rhythm of village life.
Every January, that rhythm pauses for the Dosojin Fire Festival. Built by the local community and passed down through generations, the festival is a prayer to the Dosojin deities, protectors of marriage, safe childbirth, fertility, travellers, and family. More than a celebration, it is one of Nozawa Onsen’s most treasured traditions—a night where fire, history, and community come together.
Nozawa has also inspired generations of artists, musicians, and creators, including Taro Okamoto, who found inspiration in the region’s natural beauty and unique spirit.
Whether you come for the snow, the hot springs, the culture, or simply the slower pace of mountain life, Nozawa Onsen offers an experience that is both timeless and unforgettable.
Genbe. is not a collection of identical rooms. Each space has been thoughtfully created with its own theme, atmosphere, and personality.
Born from an old ryokan in the heart of Nozawa Onsen, every room combines handmade details, local character, art, music, and creativity. From DIY-painted walls and custom flooring to carefully collected furniture and unique objects, each space reflects the spirit of Genbe.
